It’s important to know what to do if you’re in a car accident. From documenting the scene, to gathering information – this is all important when you’ve been injured.
Document Damage
It’s important that you document the scene of the accident by taking photos of when and where the incident occurred.
Take pictures while you’re still on scene. Many times the scene of your injury will change after a claim has been made. Document the scene at the time of the incident or as soon as possible thereafter and before repairs or changes are made.
Additionally, make sure you obtain a phone number and address of any witness that may have seen your accident.
Protect Yourself
Unfortunately when you’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence you should seek the advise of a personal injury professional. Insurance companies, even your own, are in business to pay as little as possible on your claim. Most insurance companies ask you for a statement and some will ask you for a statement even while you’re still at the scene of the accident. Our best advise is this: politely tell them you’re not making a statement, then seek the advise of a lawyer. Sometimes these insurance companies will try to confuse you while giving a statement then deny your claim or try to use your own words against you should you try to make a claim.
